This piece depicts a full moon setting over Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks, as seen from a Vermont hillside on an early March morning — a fleeting moment when winter night gives way to dawn and the sky still belongs to the moon. Lake Champlain stretches across the middle distance, its pale surface reflecting the last of the moonlight before sunrise. The deep blues and swirling textures of the night sky, the snow-capped summit, and the frozen fields in the foreground together capture the stillness of a late-winter dawn.

All of the papers in this collage were hand-printed on a gel plate using stencils and acrylic paint in blues and grays with an orange moon. Gel plate printing is a monoprinting technique that produces richly textured, one-of-a-kind surfaces — stencils applied to the plate create the distinctive patterns that ripple through the sky, the mountain layers, and the landscape. Torn edges outline each stratum of the composition, giving it a geologic quality, as though the Adirondacks themselves are made of accumulated time. The work is enhanced with acrylic paint pen marks.
